Runyenjes MP Cecily Mutitu Mbarire was born on December 26, 1972 in Runyenjes, Embu County.
She has been the area MP since 2007 after defeating the incumbent Governor Martin Wambora.
Mbarire attended Sacred Heart Kyeni Girls High School Embu after which she proceeded to Egerton University to pursue Bachelor of Arts in Political Science.
She also pursued a Post-Graduate Diploma in Gender and Development Studies at the University of Nairobi.
She ventured into politics way back in 2002 where she was nominated as an MP on a NARC ticket before being elected in 2007 on a PNU ticket, a seat she retained in 2013 on a TNA ticket.
Since her venture into politics, she has served in various positions one being that of the Chairperson of Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) in 2013 which she holds to date.
She previously served as its secretary from 2002 to 2013.
She was later appointed Assistant Minister for Transport in 2005 to 2007.
In the coalition government, she was also appointed the Assistant Minister for Tourism.
She is currently a member of the Departmental Committe on Public Works Roads and Transport in the National Assembly.
Hon Mbarire is married to one Denis Apaa with whom they have Children.
She has been endorsed for Embu governorship in 2017 by several law makers from Mt Kenya East region.
They include Mt Kenya East political caucus chairman Lenny Kivuti who is also Embu sanator, Senate Majority Leader and Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki and Chuka/Igamba-Ng’ombe MP Muthomi Njuki who expressed confidence in her as she is more experienced in politics.
If she gives in to vie for governorship, she will sum up the five women aspirants for governorship alongside Anne Waiguru (Kirinyaga), Charity Ngilu (Kitui), Bishop Margret Wanjiru (Nairobi) and Ruth Odinga (Kisumu).
