The photo has been shared across social media platforms hundreds of times as speculation mounts on the true identity of the hooded man who is seen selling the roasted maize.

Some social media users have been propagating the narrative that the guy does not sell roasted maize as a day job but is actually a bodyguard of the deputy president.

Two photos, one allegedly of the bodyguard in a crisply-pressed suit and another one of the same bodyguard dressed in casual wear selling roasted maize, have proliferated social media.

Now the million-dollar question comes: Was that man actually a bodyguard masquerading as one who roasts maize to eke out a living? It is hard to say and only the deputy president's communication team can put that question to bed.

In the meantime, the controversy rages.
