Thirteen Governors drawn from the Western region are set to meet in Kakamega on Monday for their first summit of the recently formed Lake Region Economic Block (LREB).
The County bosses will sign the the LREB Legal Instruments which will give the block powers to conduct its activities in the various devolved units.
The summit will see the various counties partner with potential donors who will be able to flag development projects in the represented areas.
Speaking during a DW academia alumni meeting at a Kisumu hotel, Governor Anyang' Nyongo who is an official in LREB confirmed the attendance of all the Governors from the thirteen counties.
"The governors will hold talks on how to bring to life the idea of owning a regional bank which is envisioned to handle LREB finances," stated Nyong'o
LREB constitutes of counties around Lake Victoria namely; Siaya, Homa Bay, Kisumu, Busia, Vihiga, Kakamega, Kericho, Bomet, Bungoma, Nyamira, Kisii,Trans-Nzoia and Migori.
The governors of the said counties earlier on commissioned Deloitte and Touch' to develop the Lake Region Economic Blueprint as a road-map to development in the region.
The blueprint was launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta in April 2015.
"On March 26 this year, all the 14 county bosses will meet in Kakamega where we will start discussions on how we will recognize our unexploited potentials. The British High Commissioner will be in attendance," Nyong'o stated.
