More than 500 students of University of Eldoret (UoE) are facing suspension after failing to call off boycott of classes and exams since last year. The engineering students from first to fifth year have refused to attended classes in a protest against the institution's failure to register their courses with the Engineering Board of Kenya, Nation reports. The university management has requested the students to attend classes as the accreditation process is ongoing."Attendance of lectures, tutorials, seminars, practical sessions, field trips and other such scheduled courses of instruction is compulsory," reads part of an internal memo to the students signed by the University's Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Affairs) Ruth Otunga, as quoted by Nation."It is, therefore, an offence for a group or class to boycott lectures/practicals/fieldwork for more than two days consecutively. Such an offence may lead the whole group to be suspended from the university for a specified period," adds the memo.UoE offers a variety of courses in civil and structural, mechanical and production, and agricultural and bio systems engineering.
