The holiday season is once more here with us and nothing excites and relieves than such a period.

After such a lengthy political season that to some was marked with frustrations, terror and tension, it is that time to put all the awful memories and brace for a moment of adventure and deep reflection going into the new year.

Talking of adventure, Nakuru county never fails to live up to your expectations of a fulfilling session.

Its unique flora and fauna coupled with breathtaking landscapes and historical sites will sweep you off your feet. Lets have a look at these features.

1. Lake Nakuru National Park.

Perhaps you've only heard of it courtesy of a tragic plane crash that occurred in it during the political season.

However this tiny lake on the floor of the Great Rift Valley is a heaven of sorts. Its famous pink flamingos are back in their droves and so are the other species of birds that call it home.

The lake also plays host to a wide range of other wild animals including four of the big five. Its only the elephant which is missing owing to the small size of the park.

2.Menengai crater

This extinct volcano standing at 2490 meters high is located in the northern side of Nakuru Town and provides a near birds view of the town and its environs. Several tales abound about its origin and its contents with some local sects holding their prayers under the conviction that some supreme beings reside inside the many caves within it.

3. Along the busy Nairobi- Nakuru Highway within the Maai Mahiu stretch you will again come across  the open top of the famous Mt Longonot which provides another beautiful view of the glittering waters of Lake Naivasha.

A further drive into the county will usher you with even more to choose from through the historic Hell's Gate National Park and another salty Lake Oloiden.
