The 2022 presidential debate is already heating up and, as a result, alliances are expected to soon start emerging.
Despite the race likely to soon get crowded, Deputy President William Ruto who is keenly looking to succeed his boss President Uhuru Kenyatta, remains one of the front runners in the contest.
Ruto who has already received major endorsements in line with the bid is, however, yet to settle on a running mate.
Though there exists many leaders who would perfectly fit in the position, Ruto would be almost assured of the post with Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) leader Kalonzo Musyoka as his running mate.
With the National Super Alliance (NASA) currently being on its deathbed, leaving Wiper technically, alone following the Amani National Congress (ANC) and Ford Kenya parties' decision to form a single block, Musyoka is unlikely to reject the offer should he be tipped.
Opposition leader Raila Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has also remained non committal on the coalition issues further crippling it.
The immediate former Vice President has since proved his loyalty during his tenure in the same capacity under opposition leader Raila Odinga, supporting the veteran politician for two consecutive general elections.
Musyoka has also demonstrated his national political influence, a quality that will automatically refect in Ruto's vote basket should the two approach it together.
Apart from his Ukambani bedrock, Musyoka also enjoys support in other parts of the nation, especially the ones currently allied to the opposition, resulting to his party winning several seats in these areas, further boosting their candidature.
His inclusion is also unlikely to have any negative effects since he has served under both sides of the political divide, at different times, reducing chances of him scaring away Ruto's supporters.
This, added to Ruto's current backing, is a pending victory.
