Nyando MP Jared Okelo has backed NASA leader Raila Odinga's calls for the formation of an interim government.
In a detailed opinion editorial published with The Star Newspaper on Thursday, the lawmaker explained that it was imperative that an interim government is formed go oversee a fresh and credible elections.
Okelo argued that both the August 8 general elections and October 26 Presidential repeat polls were shambolic, and therefore denies President Uhuru Kenyatta the legitimacy to govern the country for a second term.
"What Raila is saying is that the election having lacked legitimacy and a vote of no-confidence indicated by the exit poll, it is therefore incumbent upon the warring factions to come up with a temporary government as a transitional government awaiting a credible electoral process," he opined.
"What, then, we are saying is that as the transitional government works, it will also shepherd in the next round of elections that have the people’s confidence – all the people – and mirrors the dictates and tenets of our laws. A government can thereafter be formed be formed by the people for the people," he added.
A section of Jubilee leaders have, however, opposed Mr Odinga's calls, claiming that the push is unconstitutional and an attempt by the Opposition to get into power through illegal means.
