Nearly two weeks after declaring that he had quit the ODM Secretary General position, Budalang'i Member of Parliament Ababu Namwamba has not tendered in his resignation letter and neither has he officially left the party.
This has raised many questions on his next move with the party giving him the last chance to resume duties within one week or leave the party for good.
However, it has been established that Namwamba is still reluctant to ditch the party as the mood on the ground is unpredictable and that he fears leaving the party will be a political suicide to him.
Budalang'i resident Leonard Okanda told The Star that Namwamba is reluctant to officially defect from ODM because more than 90% of the residents support Raila.
"There is a feeling that Budalang'i is tired of Ababu's leadership, that is why he feels that there is no reason to exit early before the backlash," Okanda was quoted by The Star.
"He is trying to re-engineer himself by covering himself under the umbrella of Luhya unity," he added.
Early this week, Namwamba was quoted saying that he holds equal shares in the party and that nobody should tell him when to leave.
This comes at a time when Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong and Women Representative Florence Mutua declared that Busia is an ODM zone and that those defecting from the party should be prepared to lose in 2017.
