The County Government of Uasin Gishu on Wednesday kicked off a biometric system of registering its staff members in an event that was carried out at the county headquarters in Eldoret town.
Speaking during the exercise, Deputy Governor Daniel Chemno said the move would improve service delivery to members of the public.
He said absenteeism without official permission would be a thing of the past in the county offices once the registration is completed.
“Today's society is leaning towards technology and the need to embrace it is a must,” Chemno said.
The biometric registration will allow staff members to log in when they get to work in the morning and log out before leaving in the evening.
According to the Acting ICT Chief Officer Titus Kimaiyo, the system is integrated with payroll and is able to detect staff working hours in a given time.
Public service management acting Chief Officer Irene Kapting’ei on her part said that going forward the county would be able to compensate staff working past normal working hours.
“We shall be working with ICT Department to compute all extra hours which we may compensate with leave days,” she said adding that "when the county needs to do promotions and performance appraisals, data from the system would be pulled."
During phase one of the exercise, seven kits will be deployed at the several county premises at the County headquarters, Social Hall, County Yard, County Commissioners Offices, Department of Environment Offices and County Hospital formerly the Uasin Gishu District Hospital.
