AFC Leopards were on Sunday overplayed by archrivals Gor Mahia, as they went down 1-0 in the 2018 Kenyan Premier League Super Cup.
Ingwe have a long way to go if they are to put behind a disappointing season, with the new season a week away.
Harun Shakava scored the lone goal in the dying minutes of the first half, lashing on an inch-perfect cross by George Odhiambo to head home from close range.
Shakava, who took over the reigns as the new club captain was instrumental throughout marshalling a defence that kept AFC out completely.
Ingwe was overrun in the middle of the park by a strong K’ogalo team, which showed more appetite to play the ball.
At one point in the second half, the match nearly degenerated into a fist fight in the second half as Collins ‘Gattusso’ Okoth and Ernest Wendo squared up at the middle after the former Gor midfielder felt a challenge on him had been intentionally too heavy.
The second half saw a more polished game from Gor, and they came close numerous times to adding a second goal.
The team will be hoping to put their act together in good time before the new season kicks off, which comes also with continental assignments.
