Telecommunications giant Airtel Kenya has blasted Treasury Cs Henry Rotich for unlawfully demanding Sh2 billion after it bought Yu.
According to the firm, the Communications Authority had pledged to merge its licenses with the ones it bought from Yu in 2014.
Airtel told a court that the Communications Authority had reneged on an arrangement with it by demanding an additional 2 billion following directions from the Cs.
It is unlawful for a statutory body to become a puppet of a minister because the law has given that body the authority to independently exercise its authority and not at the whims of the minister." The Airtel lawyer told the court, according to a Business Daily report.
This legal battle comes as Airtel continues to reap the dividends of a boycott of products of its biggest rival, Safaricom, by NASA supporters.
