The August 8th general election is a must win for National Super (NASA) presidential flag bearer Raila Odinga, a political analyst has said.
According to Peter Ngure, a Kiambu based analyst, Raila’s political destiny and legacy will be shaped or broken on August 8th.Ngure notes that Raila’s previous attempts on the presidency have been unsuccessful adding that he has a chance to redeem his political legacy on August 8th.Ngure observes that Raila’s fourth attempt on presidency should give Jubilee sleepless nights. He notes that compared to other previous attempts, Raila seems focused and strategic on the August 8th bid.“Jubilee should not dismiss Raila because this is his last attempt and a wounded ‘lion’ is more dangerous,” he said on Friday.Ngure indicated that National Super Allliance just like Jubilee has the numbers to win the August 8th general election. The analyst observed that the major issue for NASA and Jubilee will be how to marshal their numbers to vote on August 8th.“The presidential candidate who rallies his or her supporters to come out in larger numbers and vote on August 8th will win the election.” he said.Ngure said that Uhuru and Raila are neck to neck and none of them should claim an early win.“We are likely to go for a run off based on the statistics in terms of numbers and popularity of the two presidential candidates,” he said.Ngure said that the 2013 scenarios that gifted Jubilee a win are no longer there adding that both Jubilee and NASA will have to sweat for a win on August 8.An opinion poll by Ipsos released on Tuesday showed that President Kenyatta enjoys majority support at 47 per cent compared to Raila’s 42 per cent.Political analysts observe that chances of the August 8 polls going for a re-run are high bearing in mind that Raila Odinga has the strong backing of ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi and Bomet Governor Isaac Ruto.
