Nyali MP Hezron Awiti has announced his defection from Wiper Party ahead of the August general election.

Speaking to his supporters on Tuesday shortly after announcing his defection, Awiti said he opted to ditch the Kalonzo Musyoka led-party because there was a plot to deny him a chance to battle it out with Mombasa Senator Omar Hassan for the party ticket.

Prior to the defection, both Awiti and Omar had insisted they will both be on the ballot come August.

According to Awiti, a section of leaders within the party were planning to shortchange him during the party nominations.

“If you are a married man and you are busy every time, someone will replace you,” he said.

Awiti's defection comes a week after Jomvu MP Badi Twalib walked away from Kalonzo and joined Raila Odinga's ODM party.

The move by Awiti is likely to change the political situation in Mombasa, amid speculations that the MP is likely to consider joining Jubilee.

He, however, is yet to reveal which outfit he will be joining.
