Mombasa governor hopeful Hezron Awiti has accused incumbent Hassan Joho of allegedly using county resources to fund his re-election campaigns.

Awiti alleges that Joho is using county vehicles and other resources to campaign ahead of the August 8th polls.

The Nyali MP now wants the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to launch investigation against Joho.

He said that it is against the electoral code of conduct for politicians to fund their campaigns using public resources.

He alleged that Joho’s campaign vehicles were branded using taxpayers money.

“Joho should tell u the source of money he is using to campaign for re-election,” he said as quoted by the People Daily.

Awiti also claimed that some county workers are directly involved in Joho’s campaigns.

The Vibrant Democratic Movement (VDM) party aspirant asked the IEBC to ensure a fair competitive ground for the August 8th polls.

Governor Joho has however trashed Awiti’s claims terming them as propaganda.

The Nyali MP and Joho have been embroiled in public spats recently over the use of billboards with Awiti accusing Joho of  blocking his billboards in efforts to curtail and frustrate his campaigns.

Awiti says that he will still beat Joho with or without billboards.
