Kiambu County Liquor Licensing Board Chairman George Koimburi has handed over a letter to Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu from Gatundu South Bar Owners Association indicating that group members are ready to comply with the new county alcohol law.
Speaking at Kiambu County Headquarters on Tuesday after the exercise, Koimburi said that the reissuing of new licenses will be done in accordance with the new law to ensure that only legalized alcohol is sold in the county.
"We have taken a letter of compliance and applications for new licences for the first batch of applicants all from Gatundu South. The governor has received them and has told us to give him one day so that his committee can go through them, after which he will give directions," Koimburi said.
Koimburi has now called upon bar owners from the other Kiambu 11 sub-counties to follow Gatundu South example and cooperate with his board to speed up the reissuing of licenses to the appropriate traders.
"I want to thank the Gatundu South bar owners for being the first ones to comply with the new law. I request all the other bar owners in the other sub-counties to come together, we read the new law to them, they sign it and then apply for the licenses. That is how we are doing it everywhere across the county," he added.
Koimburi noted that the law was good in seeing that it will curb the sale of illicit brews in the county while ensuring that licensed traders reap maximum benefit from their trade.
