Scars are seen as marks left by wounds when they dry up and the pain fades away.  Some marks eventually disappear while others stay with us forever. We often try to hide and cover them up with tattoos especially the ones seen as horrific memories in our heads. The most significant ones remain visible despite all our efforts to erase them from our bodies. Most of these persistent scars often have a story behind them. An experience sometimes we wish we can forget.

These stories are realities that many girls try to hide. They derive their identity from their lovers who misuse them and later throw them out. When did men stop being men and turn into monsters?  Although there is a high correlation between alcohol, or other substance abuse, and battering, it is not a causal relationship. Batterers opt to drink as one of many excuses for their violence. Stopping the abusers' drinking will not stop the violence. Both battering and substance abuse need to be addressed separately.

We cannot even judge the ladies who stay in this relationship because we have never been there and don’t know what is going on in their heads. We can only wish they see their worth through the eyes of their creator who says they are beautiful, strong, intelligent and wonderfully made. Some battered women are abandoned by their church when separating from abusers since some religious policies prohibit separation or divorce regardless of the severity of abuse.

The modern men of age should style up and be a protector to their spouse rather than being brutal. Battering is naïve and unacceptable in our society today.
