Deputy President-elect William Ruto has revealed that Eldoret Catholic Diocese Bishop the late Cornelius Korir was an adviser to the government.

Speaking during a Sunday mass at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Eldoret town, Ruto described Bishop Korir as a hero in peace building and reconciliation.

It is for this reasons that the Deputy President said the government had decided to accord Bishop Korir a state funeral.

"The President has already ordered that burial arrangement are done by the government and we shall work closely with the Catholic church leadership to see to it that our Bishop is given a befitting send-off," said Ruto.

"Bishop Korir was an adviser to the government, he reconciled Kenyans and worked beyond his church responsibility to an extent of working for the nation," he added.

Bishop Korir who died at his home Elgon View home in the outskirts of Eldoret town s scheduled to be buried on Saturday at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Eldoret.His body will be moved from the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret town to the cathedral on Friday for public viewing at 1PM before a special mass at 3.00PM followed by a night vigil from 6.00PM.

The funeral mass will be conducted at the Eldoret Sports club with over 100,000 people expected to attend.
