National Council for Population and Development (NCPD) North Rift regional coordinator Moses Ouma has revealed why boys did not perform well in the 2017 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) examinations.

He said much emphasis has been put on the girl child, leaving the boy child neglected.

“The current education policies such the return to school policies for teenage mothers and comprehensive sexuality education tend to favor the girl child,” he said in his office, Wednesday.

“Proper interventions need to be put in place like investments in education and other sectors to address the equal treatment of both boy and girl child and not just focusing on the girl education. The boy child is now becoming an endangered species thus the government through the ministry of education should develop programs to support them,” he added.

He reiterated that as population expert he foresees a situation where with the current empowerment of girl child there will be reduced fertility thus increasing contraception use and reducing fertility and mortality level leading to a managed population.

This comes after girls performed well in the 2017 KCPE compared to boys countrywide
