Bunyala rice farmers last Wednesday faulted Cord leader Raila Odinga’s visit in Budalangi saying that he had failed to address their issues when they needed him most.
The Magombe irrigation rice farmers had told the press Wednesday morning that they would not entertain Cord leader’s visit in the area should he and Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong attempt to “meddle” in their affairs.
The irate rice farmers who had taken part in a peaceful demonstration on Tuesday had complained that the Busia County government had done nothing to promote rice growing in Bunyala sub-county, which is a major rice growing zone in the former Western province.
Addressing journalists at the Magombe National Irrigation Board offices before the former Prime Minister landed, they further accused Raila of failing to address their issues when he was the Prime Minister and yet they had voted for him in large numbers.
“Our county government does not want to provide us with sufficient tractors to promote rice farming accordingly. They only come here seeking votes. Their visit this time round will not have any impact,” they said.
This came as the area Member of Parliament Ababu Namwamba who recently relinquished his ODM Secretary General position had stated that Budalangi residents were ready to shame Raila Odinga in 2017.
