Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior has said that Independent Boundaries and Electoral Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati and CEO Ezra Chiloba are likely to end up in jail because of poll malpractices.

The vocal senator took to his Twitter account to share the sentiments saying that the duo risks being jailed for contempt of court and violation. This is after the Supreme Court nullified the presidential election on the grounds that the exercise was marred by illegalities and irregularities.

“Chiloba and Chebukati are facing a possible jail term for contempt of Court & violation of the Election Offenses Act," he wrote, as quoted by Nairobi News.

In his ruling, Chief Justice Maraga David asked the electoral body to conduct a fresh election whose results will reflect the will of the people of Kenya.

“A decision is hereby issued that the elections held on August 8, were not conducted in accordance with the constitution and the applicable law. The results are therefore invalid, null and void,” Justice Maraga had said, as quoted by Nation.

The nullification of the results attracted mixed reactions from different factions ahead of the October 17th fresh polls date.
