Following the recent proposals by the Jubilee Party to amend election laws, the IEBC is today expected to oppose these proposed radical changes.

Key among the reasons to oppose is the way these new rules will drastically reduce the powers of a sitting IEBC chairman to announce the final results of an election.

The IEBC is also opposed to the new rules as they take away the powers of the Supreme Court in legitimising the poll results in presidential elections.

"The chairman will present the commission's position to the joint committee on Wednesday," said a source quoted by the Star.

Chebukati has also cited the time factor in the amendments, arguing that it is wrong to bring the changes just a few days to the election.
