Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Chairman Wafula Chebukati should resign before things get out of hand, a NASA principal has said.
According to Musalia Mudavadi, the IEBC boss is under siege from his staff who have colluded with the Jubilee administration to undermine his leadership.
Without giving names, Mudavadi said four commissioners in the electoral agency are taking instructions from the Jubilee top leadership and, therefore, Chebukati's efforts to oversee a credible election are doomed to fail.
"Mr Chebukati, the message is crystal clear. These people will not change, they are putting you in a corner and when the time comes, you will be left alone. Don't be used to commit treasonable acts," Mudavadi said, speaking during a NASA rally at Kamukunji Grounds, Nairobi on Wednesday.
Coincidentally, Chebukati has admitted that divisions in the electoral body were harming the agency's operations.
"I have made several attempts to make critical changes but all my motions have been defeated by the majority commissioners. Under such conditions, it is difficult to guarantee free, fair and credible elections," he said.
Chebukati made the remarks following the resignation of Rosyln Akombe who quit citing security reasons.
