City lawyer Nelson Havi says embattled IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati may after all not be part of October 26th polls, following his ‘powerful’ speech on Wednesday.
Moment after the resignation of Commissioner Roselyne Akombe, Chebukati acknowledged that he is not in a position to deliver free and credible polls.
And Havi, who also serves in opposition leader Raila Odinga’s legal team, insists that IEBC should cancel October polls to allow for talks.
“His speech was so powerful in that for critical thinkers, they would conclude that he resigned. He cannot be part of the process and that is another crisis.
“Because both parties are not ready to dialogue, I do not see him presiding over the exercise and will bolt out in few say time. I can bet that the speech was more of a resignation,” he said.
Although he maintained that he is keen to deliver a free and fair poll, Chebukati admitted that the commission is almost being wretched by internal divisions.
His claims were further substantiated by Akombe, who accused a section of commissioners of allegedly safeguarding interests of certain politicians.
