Senior Counsel James Orengo now wants Director of Public Prosecution to immediately arrest IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati over violation of the constitution.

On Friday, Chebukati absolved himself from alleged electoral malpractices and instead shifting blame to unidentified members of the Secretariat.

And a fierce Orengo, whose legal career was boosted by Friday’s Supreme Court ruling that nullified Uhuru Kenyatta’s election, now wants the chairman to take responsibility.

“The biggest public crime one can commit is violation of the constitution and that is what Chebukati did. DPP should initiate prosecution.

“He cannot run away from that and we must ensure that he takes responsibility. He cannot hold at ransom the will of Kenyan people and time to be prosecuted has come,” he said on Friday.

Although it is not clear whether NASA will initiate a process of Chebukati’s removal, strict constitutional timelines could sabotage them.

In their various rallies after the ruling President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto maintained that the commissioners should strictly remain in office.
