The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Chairman Wafula Chebukati is in a fresh push for the President to advertise the vacancy left by Commissioner Roselyn Akombe upon her resignation and find a replacement for her citing work overload.
The commission boss has resorted to writing to the Attorney General after his push and pull with the state house did not bear any fruits. He acknowledged writing to the Attorney General's office to seek his intervention in the matter while in Eldoret to assess the welfare of IEBC officers and the progress of office developments on Friday 2nd March 2018.
According to the current Constitution of Kenya, under the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission act, the recruitment process of the chairperson or member of the commission is supposed to start immediately upon declaration of the vacancy by the President.
Speaking to a local television station, Chebukati stated, "Nothing has been done so far, we are hoping to see some changes soon. We are just restructuring ourselves at the moment to see that we are not short-handed".
This matter had been brought to the attention of the state house spokesman Manoah Esipisu sometime in February where he replied.
"The matter is not among the areas of priority for the President right now hence I will not be able to tell you when the process shall begin".
