[Photo: Daily Nation]IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati has had his security boosted, ahead of the October 17 repeat presidential pollChebukati’s wife and children have been included in the new security detail according to Monday's The Star.More police officers, including the elite Flying Squad and Special Crimes Prevention Unit officers, have been attached to his security team to provide around-the-clock security. The decision to beef up the security team came after an attempted arson attack at the rural home of Chebukati’s relatives when he announced Uhuru Kenyatta the winner of the August 8 election. The detectives are also tasked with patrolling his Nairobi home.A week to the August election, Chebukati was provided with six police officers and two police chase cars to ease his movement around the country. The paper also reports that the police is addressing individual security needs of IEBC commissioners and staff without going through the IEBC chiefs to make security arrangements. In the past, the paper says, commissioners and staff were required to make their requests for security through CEO Ezra Chiloba or Chebukati, but with the recent fall-out, commissioners and staff can deal with the police directly.
