[The Carmethershire Herald]Christmas is an annual festival commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ. It is observed most commonly on December 25, as a religious and cultural celebration among billions of people around the world. Christmas is also at times known as Xmas. However some people do not think it is correct to call Christmas 'Xmas', for the word Xmas takes 'Christ' (Jesus) out of Christmas. "In the Greek language and alphabet, the letter that looks like an X is the Greek letter chi/Χ (pronounced 'kye' - it rhymes with 'eye') which is the first letter of the Greek word for Christ, Christos,'' quotes 'whychristmas'.So Xmas can also mean Christmas, but it should be pronounced 'Christmas', and not 'ex-mas'.
