The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) politicians in Coast region have endorsed party leader Raila Odinga as their preferred National Super Alliance (NASA) flag bearer.

During a rally at Tononoka grounds, the members in a declaration read by Taita Taveta Governor John Mruttu said they are confident Raila will address the challenges facing coastal residents.

"Our preferred choice for the presidency has been and continue to be Raila Odinga," Mruttu said on Sunday as quoted by the Star.

On Saturday, Raila said the NASA presidential candidate will be unveiled soon, further dismissing claims that the alliance will crumble before the August general election.

And in Mombasa, Mruttu said they will rally the region behind NASA in the forthcoming elections slated for August 8.

"We have resolved to vigorously support the establishment of an inclusive NASA government in the upcoming polls,” read part of the declaration on behalf of the politicians.

“The region’s natural resources and economic interests will determine whom they will support politically,” they added.

The group further asked the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to ensure the polls are free, fair and transparent.

On his part, Raila said if he’s elected president, he will among other things implement the Truth Justice and Reconciliation Commission (TJRC) report, increase funding to the counties as well seek amendments to the Natural Resources Bill.

The former Prime Minister accused the Jubilee administration of failing to address challenges facing coastal residents.
