The High Court on Thursday extended the deadline for the ongoing mass voter registration for three more days.
Activist Okiya Omtatah had moved to court seeking to have the deadline pushed forward, arguing that most Kenyans risk being locked out from participating in the next polls.
In his ruling, Justice Mwita Chacha observed that the petitioner had successfully convinced the court of the hurdles faced by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) during the listing of voters.
"The petitioner has argued passionately. He has given examples of areas where a ward is nearly asvast as a constituency," Mwita stated."In order to give any would-be potential voter to register, the respondent is hereby directed tocontinue with the drive until February 19 at 6 pm," he added.
The IEBC had set February 14 as the deadline for registration. However, the court extended the period for two more days until February 16, before further pushing the exercise ahead to February 19 at 6pm.
