The Opposition coalition NASA has threatened to see justice at the International Criminal Court (ICC) over the recent killings of civilians by the police during the anti-IEBC protests.

Led by Siaya Senator James Orengo, NASA said acting Interior CS Fred Matiang'i and Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinett should be held liable for the deaths.

According to Orengo, the state is unfairly targeting the Luo community, accusing the government of sanctioned genocide against the civilians.

“Kenya is a signatory to the Rome Statute. What is happening in the country in regards to ethic profiling, especially the Luo community falls in purview of genocide. This is a classic example of crimes against humanity,” he said.

“There is a determination to turn Luo land into the Biafra or Kosovo of Kenya. You do not need to kill more than 100 people to classify the police actions as genocide against civilians. Article 6 and 7 of the International Crimes Act is clear, you cannot kill people advancing different agenda,” he added.

Last week, Matiang'i banned anti-IEBC protests with Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu CBDs, arguing that the demonstrations had negatively affected businesses.
