It has emerged that the planned repatriation of Somali refugees residing at the Daadab camp might not be possible as the November deadline approaches.
According to Interior Cabinet Secretary Joseph Nkaiserry, the repatriation of the refugees is uncertain as the government is still in talks to meet all UN protocols for such an exercise.
While speaking in Loitoktok on Sunday, the CS said that Kenya must, first of all, ensure Somalia was ready to receive its citizens.
Nkaiserry, however, admitted that dialogue over the matter is still ongoing because Kenya has maintained that the refugees must leave the country.
He further revealed that President Uhuru Kenyatta will lead a Kenyan delegation to the UN General Assembly where modalities of the repatriation will be discussed.
Earlier this year, the government announced that Somali refugees residing at the camp should return to their homeland.
The government cited increasing terrorism threats as one of the major reason behind the closure of the world largest refugee camp.
The move faced opposition from a section of world leaders but later agreed with Kenya after the latter stated the reason behind the move.
