Uasin Gishu deputy governor Daniel Chemno has expressed concerns over the increasing cases of cancer diseases and deaths, especially in the North Rift region.Chemno who spoke in Eldoret town said the government should declare cancer as a national disaster.This, the deputy governor said will enable resources to be pulled together by all stakeholders so as to help curb the disease."It's sad that in a radius of 2 kilometers in Uasin Gishu County you find a patient suffering from this deadly disease, we have buried thousands of residents on the same," Chemno said on Thursday."Cancer is now a number one killer disease in the country and its time it is declared a national disaster so that strategies to curb it are put in place," he added.The deputy governor also asked residents to always go for regular cancer screening noting that "many people succumb to the disease because it's detected at an advanced stage but if notices early it can be treated."He further reaffirmed the county government's commitment to equipping all county hospital with modern equipment for residents to get quality health care services.To be the first to get updates on breaking and trending news in Kenya, send your WhatsApp number to 074094990.
