When news emerged that an unknown number of robbers had managed pull off a Hollywood-style heist in Thika Town by digging a tunnel to a bank and looting over Sh50 million in cash, Kenyans on social media went wild. The thugs dug a 2.5 feet wide tunnel to the strong room of the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) from a building adjoining the bank's store locker room. According to police, the tunnel was about 30 metres long and was about 1.5 meters deep. Not even the police, stationed just 150 metres away from the bank, noticed any suspicious activity, until Monday morning, when the money was discovered missing by the branch manager, Samuel Ng’ang’a.However, what has been interesting about the whole bank robbery, is how many seemed to 'salute' the smart thugs who could execute the whole plan successfully and end up uncaught. Here are some interesting Twitter reactions.@xtiandela wrote: "But those KCB Thika bank thieves seriously planned for this job. Looks like a movie...Months of planning to get it Perfect!!"@roberto_2116 was like I can't believe it: "Just when we thought prison break wasn't real..the thugs in KCB Thika did it."@mungai_jeff7 took pride: "I swear this KCB Thika thing got me so proud of those Kenyans..na mnasemaga hatuna movie."@Jotham_Rajoro rediculed: "Hello KCB Group ,why didn't your lions eat the thugs who stole at KCB Thika?"NBS Television (@nbstv), informed: "Thieves in Kenya have stolen Ksh50m ( approx. UGX1.7bn) from Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) Thika branch after digging an underground tunnel into the bank's strong room to access vault."For user @YishaiYishai the thugs deserved the money: "I think this is what they mean when they say HARD WORK PAYS. Guys dug their way to riches at KCB Thika."@KaishaGil saluted: "I would like to congratulate the thieves who broke into KCB thika using oxyacetylene flame to drill holes into two safes after digging a tunnel underground to enter the bank.Kenya is all about stealing. If only Such brilliant minds had jobs."
