Meru governor Peter Munya has revealed that his relationship with Deputy President William Ruto, has not been smooth.
He said Ruto has been triggering his rivals to publicly 'attack' or oppose him, with aims to bring him down, politically.
According to the outgoing Council of Governors (CoG) chairman, trouble started when he declared his interest in vying for the country's top seat in 2022.
According to Munya, his fallout with Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta, during the merger of URP and TNA parties, also angered the DP.
Munya declined to join Jubilee Party, saying it intended to support certain individuals. He later joined PNU, where he is the chairman.
"My relationship with Ruto, clearly is not smooth. This all begun when I declared to vie for presidency in 2022. And you know he will be vying too. So I think he sees me as a block to his ambitions,'' Munya revealed, Tuesday.
Speaking during an interview on a local television station, he expressed optimism of successfully retaining his seat, in August 8.
He faces rivalry from his senator, Jubilee Party's Kiraitu Murungi, among other aspirants.
