Deputy President William Ruto is a shrewd leader who identifies an opportunity and seizes it no matter how little it is.
He took advantage of Raila Odinga's meeting with President Uhuru Kenyatta to lure ODM MPs into his camp with intentions of winning their hearts to endorse him 2022.
However, he should not count his chicks too early.
In his tour to the Coastal region, he was accorded a warm reception with many ODM MPs supporting Raila's idea, to dialogue with Uhuru.
Mombasa County Governor Ali Hassan Joho said he supported his party leader's (Raila) move and said all he wanted was peace for Kenyans.
This new love between Uhuru and Raila has enabled the DP to tour the coast with ease.
His warm reception must have deluded his mind and gave him a false assurance that he will be the President of Kenya as from 2022.
But Raila is known to thrive in crisis and also being unpredictable. One can not tell who Raila will endorse. What is clear, whoever Raila will endorse, will get full support from ODM legislators.
Therefore, Ruto should not bank on the declarations by the coast MPs that they will back him.
Just like dogs, it can come for food at your apartment and when the owner calls it, it will run to him.
The likes of Aisha Jumwa will declare another decision after Raila asks them to.
If therefore, Ruto is serious about the presidency, he should not take roadside declaration of support in the 2022 race too serious.
