Speaking to supporters at the Milimani Law courts on Tuesday after the High court upheld his re-election, Duale said that the win gives him space to strategize for 2022.

The Garissa MP said that he is ready for bigger responsibilities moving forward.

“I am grateful to the court and my supporters for standing with me during the hearing process and this win gives me space to deliver on key issues as we think of 2022,” he said.

Duale said that he will focus his energy on serving the Garissa people.

The lawmaker stated that time for politics is over, adding that he will work with the national and county government to ensure locals benefit from his leadership.

There have been speculations that Duale could contest for the Garissa governor seat in the 2022 general election.

It is also being speculated that the National Assembly leader of Majority could deputize Deputy President William Ruto in 2022.

Duale is considered a close ally of the Deputy President and he (Ruto) will need his (Duale) contribution ahead of 2022.

DP Ruto is expected to fly the Jubilee ticket in the 2022 presidential poll when President Kenyatta’s term would come to an end.

On Tuesday, the High court dismissed a petition that had been filed by Farah Maalim challenging Duale’s re-election.

The court termed Maalim’s petition weak and slapped the petitioner with Sh6 Million fine as the cost of the suit.

Maalim has vowed to appeal the High court ruling.
