The ongoing devolution conference in Kakamega is a waste of time, National majority Leader Aden Duale has said.
According to Duale, there are better things that the governors could have done than travelling all the way to Western Kenya for the meeting.
Together with other MPs, Duale wants new Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji to prosecute governors who have misused public resources.
“About 15 counties are facing a humanitarian crisis yet the governors are busy show casing to the public other things."The Governor of Tana River is in Kakamega while 15 villages in his county are marooned,” Duale said.
His remarks were backed by Jubilee Chief Whip Benjamin Washiali who also advocated for the audit of the conference.
“We must be told, as the House that approves budgets, how much the governors collected while organising the conference, how much was spent and what is done with the balance,” Mr Washiali said.
He also accused the governors for deliberately locking out members of the public from the conference.
The lawmaker said that the public should have been given a chance to be part of the ongoing conference.
Former Prime Minister Raila Amolo Odinga is among the leaders who addressed governors during the conference.
