An education official in the county said on Tuesday the sessions will play a role in containing the rising cases of early pregnancies in schools.

Kiambu sub-county Education Officer Harrison Muriuki said it was time schools dropped the myth that sex-talk was a topic that cannot be discussed with teenagers.

He said schools were better placed to teach sex education compared to homes.

“Sex education will be essential such that our children will know what they are engaging in even before they engage and also help the children to be responsible knowing the dangers which are associated with premarital sex and irresponsible sex," he told this reporter in an interview.

He said sex-talk sessions will help the teenagers understand sex better.

He said most teenagers were relying on internet to access such information.

Sex-talk sessions, he also said, will enable the learners understand members of the opposite sex better.

He spoke at a time the government is yet to consider introducing sex education in schools.

The Catholic Church is however, opposed to the move.
