The Boni Council of Elders in Pandanguo have vowed to assist the State in flushing out the al Shabaab militants said to be hiding in Boni Forest.

On Thursday, the elders said they welcome the proposal by Coast Regional Coordinator Nelson Marwa to bomb the forest to rid it of the terrorists.

According to the Star, the resolution was reached at during an emergency meeting which came barely a day after the Shabaab militants raided the region, killing three police officers.

The elders said the forest poses a security threat to the county owing to the presence of the militants.

Their spokesperson, Adan Golja added that they are tired of spending sleepless nights due to living in fear of being attacked.

He added that they are ready to support the government if it decides to bomb the forest to find a lasting solution.

“It’s okay for the forest to be bombed so these militants will have nowhere to hide. If that will bring to an end the menace, so be it,” Golja said.

The elders initially had faulted Marwa over his threat to bomb the forest to flush out the militants.
