National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) Eldoret depot has suspended its services for a week.

According to (NCPB) spokesman Titus Maiyo, this is because of the fire outbreak that burnt one of the dryers on Thursday.

“We have suspended our services for a week for us to repair and do some maintenance on the damaged driers, we call upon the farmers to bear with us,” he said in Eldoret town, Saturday.

“Once the repairs are complete our services will resume as usual. We are working round the clock to ensure that everything goes back to normalcy for farmers to continue delivering their maize,” he added.

This comes after a fire outbreak due to an electrical fault burned one of the driers at the Eldoret NCPB depot on Thursday.

He, however, revealed that the National government has released sh 500 million to pay farmers who have delivered their maize to NCPB depots.

“We will make sure that farmers are paid promptly after delivering their maize. We will continue paying farmers as the treasury continues to release the funds. So far we have bought 1.7 million 90Kg bags of maize across the country,” noted Maiyo.
