The match, which was set for this Saturday has been pushed, in order to give the national team Harambee Stars time to prepare for the upcoming friendlies and international matches.

In a statement from FKF, the national team has planned friendly matches in preparations for the big match against Ghana.

“The national team is assigned to honour friendly matches against Swaziland on May 25 and Equatorial Guinea on May 28.

“As such the derby between AFC Leopards and Gor Mahia scheduled for this Saturday has been postponed to a later date. Football Kenya Federation will work to see that the match has been scheduled at the earliest opportune time,” read the statement.

The federation then wrote to the two clubs informing them of the decision, but AFC Leopards, in a counter-statement said the match will go on as planned.

“We shall not release our players for Harambee Stars friendlies due to the match and Super Cup to start on June 2, 2018. We condemn in the strongest terms possible the statement attributed to FKF President that the derby will not be played in a 'Funny stadium’.

“We are going ahead with preparations and we shall not participate in “Funny Friendlies’ which do not fall under Fifa calendar for national teams,” read part of the statement.
