Former Attorney General (AG) Amos Wako now wants NASA leader Raila Odinga to contest for presidency in 2022.
In an interview with a local daily on Saturday, Wako noted that Odinga has a chance of clinching the seat in 2022, adding that liberators across the world ascend to power when they are in their 70s .
He said that the ODM leader is popular and should not give up on being president.
"Raila Odinga should not retire from politics as he is being told, but rather he should prepare himself to contest again in 2022," he said.
Wako said that the country needs Raila's leadership for equality, fairness and an end to electoral fraud.
The Busia ODM Senator castigated politicians calling for Raila's retirement terming them enemies of rule of law.
He warned that the country will plunge into dictatorship should Raila quit politics now.
"Where we are as a country we still need Raila's input in pushing for the third liberation that respects the rule of law," the ODM senator added.
Raila is under pressure to quit politics after failing to win in last year's presidential election.
Political analysts argue that Odinga might not retire any time soon and that the former Prime Minister could contest in 2022 on his ODM party.
