Elders from former Garissa Governor Nathif Jama’s clan have hinted at the possibility that Mr. Jama will withdraw his petition against Governor Ali Korane.
The elders from Aulihan clan, led by Sultan Hamud Sheikh said they have spoken to Mr. Jama and agreed that he will withdraw his petition challenging Governor Korane’s victory in the August elections.
Mr. Hamud said the Aulihan clan met with Governor Korane’s clan and agreed on withdrawing the case for the sake of peace and stability of the county.
Speaking to the press at a Garissa hotel on Tuesday, the Sultan said that whatever they were saying had Mr. Jama’s blessings and that they were not in any way contradicting his stand.
“We want the residents of Garissa to know that Nathif has officially withdrawn the petition. We the clan elders have collectively agreed to work with Korane.”
“The decision to withdraw the case was for the sake of peace and stability of the county. The petition had attracted a lot of attention that had, in turn, generated a lot of tension. This was not good for our security,” said Mr. Hamud.
Mr. Jama had filed a petition at the Garissa High Court challenging the election of Governor Korane saying the August 8 elections were flawed and characterized by massive irregularities.
