A former MP aspirant now wants President Uhuru Kenyatta jailed.
Boniface Mwangi, who unsuccessfully vied for the Starehe MP seat in the August 8 general election, hit out at Uhuru terming him the ‘king of false news’.This comes after President Uhuru on Wednesday signed into law the Computer and Cybercrimes Bill. The human rights activist cum politician on Thursday called for the prosecution of the President, accusing him of failing to fulfill the pledges he made to Kenyans ahead of the 2013 general elections. This, he argued, qualifies the Commander in Chief as a liar. "Will President Uhuru Kenyatta go to jail? He is the king of false news e.g promised five stadiums that he never built, the fake free laptops, fake free maternity, fake free education and all the false news he shares," Mwangi, who lost to Jubilee's Charles Kanyi (Jaguar), said in a tweet.
In Kenya, however, a person who occupies State House cannot be prosecuted and jailed because they enjoy legal immunity. Head of States can only be prosecuted and jailed after they have left office.According to the new law, sharing fake news and propagating hate speech attracts a fine of Sh5 million or a two-year long jail term, while sharing or publishing pornographic content attracts a Sh300,000 fine or a 30-year jail term.
