Garissa Governor Ali Bunow Korane now wants Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party leader Raila Odinga to endorse Deputy William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.
Speaking to journalists in Garissa Town on Sunday, Korane said that Raila needs to support DP Ruto as a sign of gratitude for standing with him in 2007.
He said that Raila supporting and partnering with DP Ruto in 2022 will be for the good of Kenyans.
The Jubilee governor said that DP Ruto has the experience to succeed Uhuru Kenyatta and needs Raila’s blessings.
“Raila Odinga should consider endorsing Ruto in 2022 as a sign of previous friendship and goodwill for Kenya,” he said as quoted by a local daily.
Korane also asked Raila not to betray the new friendship he has with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Politicians allied to DP Ruto have been asking Raila to endorse DP Ruto.
Early this month, Garissa Township Aden Duale said that Raila has a political debt to pay to Ruto.
He said that Raila became Prime Minister courtesy of DP Ruto's support in 2008.
A section of Raila’s allies among them Malindi Township MP Aisha Jumwa has openly declared support for DP Ruto in 2022.
According to sources, DP Ruto has started to assemble his team and machinery in readiness for the 2022 general election.
