[Photo: the-star.co.ke]Two woman representatives who last week were pushing for a pay increase risk losing their seats following a petition filed at the High Court on Wednesday.Businessman Tony Njuguna, in an urgent petition at Milimani Law Courts, seeks to have Woman Representatives-elect Gathoni Wauchomba (Kiambu) and Gladys Wanga (Homa Bay) stopped from assuming office.MPs swearing in is set for Thursday (today) afternoon.Njuguna, formerly of the popular Reddykyulas TV programme, said the two are unfit to hold office."The two are about to be sworn in on August 31, 2017 as Members of Parliament and it would be counterproductive, illegal and contrary to public policy. They are unfit to hold public office," the documents filed at the Milimani law court reads as quoted by the Star. The businessman accuses Wamuchomba and Wanga of trying to arm-twist Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) chairperson Sarah Serem.Njuguna said the two women are pushing for a review of salaries that violates the Constitution.Wamuchomba has since apologised to her Kiambu constituents and Kenyans at large after she received a severe backlash on social media for days. Kiambu voters have also threatened to recall her.She said she will be contented with any salary that the SRC will propose for MPs.
