When it comes to politics, comparing Gideon Moi and Deputy President William Ruto is like comparing a lion and a dog as which one is the fiercest.
When you compare the two you will realize that Gideon Moi is still in diapers compared to Dp Ruto. Dp Ruto campaigned for former president Daniel Moi from 1992 through the Youth for KANU 1992(YK1992) slogan.
By then, Gideon Moi was nowhere in the political scene. Ruto made his name from there up to where he has managed to be as of now the second in command in Kenya. But the question is, how did Gideon Moi join politics?
When it was apparent that former president Moi was retiring from active politics, he made sure that his dynasty was not going to go into oblivion with his retirement.
He introduced his younger son into politics and that is when Gideon Moi started active politics. When Gideon joined the race for the Member of Parliament for Baringo Central where his father was the area MP, there were three opposition contestants who wanted to take over from the former president.
But in a surprise turn of events, all the three contestants withdrew from the race and supported Gideon Moi. This became evident that Gideon Moi was heading for a win and hence the Moi dynasty was going to live on. But why did all the three opposition contestants withdrew all over sudden?
Was it out of compassion for the young Moi or through coercion? The reason could be that since former president Moi was back then the most feared man in Kenya, he might have intimidated and manipulated his son’s competitors into stepping down for a clear win for the son.
All the while as Gideon Moi was being spoon-fed by his father to win the Baringo central sit, Dp Ruto was having a stiff competition of retaining his Eldoret North constituency sit on his own. DP Ruto managed to retain the sit while Gideon Moi was helped by his father, former president Moi to get the sit with no competition.
What could have happened if Gideon Moi was left to compete fairly with the other contestants? It was clear back then that almost every citizen in Kenya wanted the Moi dynasty to fall and hence Gideon Moi could not have survived the competition.
Therefore it was necessary for the competitors to withdraw from the race to allow Gideon Moi have a smooth win.For the most parts of Dp Ruto’s politics, he has been his own man overcoming every hurdle in his way while Gideon Moi has been riding in his father’s shadow and clearly without the name of his father, Gideon is a nobody in Kenyan politics.
If for example, you take Gideon Moi and Dp Ruto to a desert where there is no water, no food, and no help coming, Gideon will have to shout the name of his father calling for help while Dp Ruto is busy trying to find a way out of the hurdle. It is for this reason that Gideon Moi is a no match for Dp Ruto and for a fact, Gideon should be borrowing some advice from the Dp.
