State House spokesperson Manaoh Esipisu has defended the government over its dramatic move to withdraw the security detail of Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho and his counterpart Amason Kingi.
In a statement on Sunday, Esipisu said the move by the government is aimed at restructuring and reorganising the regional security operations and not politically instigated as alleged by a section of politicians.
"My understanding is that regional commands within Mombasa and Kilifi are reorganising themselves. The important thing is that there is no political motive in operational matters within the police, it is up to various commands to make decisions they deem fit response to the emerging issues within their jurisdiction," Esipisu said.
"Local commandants make local decisions so let us not always jump into conclusion that a certain matter has to be attached to an occurrence," he added.
The security of the two governors was withdrawn late last week, shortly after the two dressing down President Uhuru Kenyatta over projects in the Coast region.
