[Photo/The StandardMedia].Politics in Kenya is becoming more unpredictable in recent weeks, many are still overcoming the shock that top politicians and mostly governors were beaten in party primaries, one such case is Nakuru Governor Kinuthia Mbugua, a former AP commandant who was fell Mr Lee Kinyanjui.Mbugua garned 150,137 votes against Kinyanjui's 216,385.However, political pundits in Nakuru have their own hypothesis why Mbugua was floored in the Jubilee primaries, one reason according to them is that the incumbent was overconfident even before the exercise began."The governor had the resources and machine to convince residents to reelect him, but he squandered the opportunity he had,"  siad Mark Mutua, Nakuru businessman.According to the analysts, Kinyanjui won because he conducted well-calculated campaigns and evade the urban center by concentrating his campaigns in the rural and far-flung areas while Mbugua concentrated all his efforts in urban centers flanked by high-profile musicians.Another reason cited is that, Mbugua failed to crackdown on his allies who were implicated in corruption."Even when it was clear that some of his allies were involved in shady deals, the governor refused to sack them and he appeared to have been held hostage by the cartels," a former Mbugua's campaigner said.Another Nakuru based political pundit Andrew Nyabuto said Mbugua's failure to have an outside ear led to his fall."They could not tell him the truth on the ground that the electorate wanted a change of guard," said Nyabuto.Chances are that Mbugua may run as an independent candidate if Jubilee Appeals Tribunal throws out his application challenging Kinyanjui's win.
