West Pokot governor John Lonyangapuo has asked the national government to disband the Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA).
The Jubilee allied governor says despite the authority being in place for the past 25 years, it has failed to achieve its mandate.
KVDA is a government parastatal mandated to plan, initiate, co-ordinate and monitor implementation projects that transcend administrative boundaries within its area of jurisdiction.
"Despite the authority getting billion of shillings from the national government it has failed to initiate sustainable projects that will benefit locals, that's why I am calling for it's disbandment," said Prof. Lonyangapuo in Eldoret town on Tuesday.
"Funds that were being channeled to KVDA should instead be given to counties from the North Rift region directly because the authority has become a political tool meant to put people to power using non existence projects," he added.
KVDA managing director has however dismissed the allegations insisting that the authority had initiated many development projects across the region.
KVDA with its head office in Eldoret town, Uasin Gishu county has presence in several North Rift counties among them Elgeiyo Marakwet, Samburu, Turkana, Trans Nzoia, Baringo among others.
